The Royal Award for Islamic Finance

The Royal Award recognises and honours one exceptional individual who has excelled in advancing Islamic finance globally through outstanding performance and contribution, beyond commercial achievements.

The nomination criteria are as follows. The Royal Award nominee:

  1. Shall be a living person of any nationality and religion from any country;

  2. Nominee’s achievements shall be related to the development of Islamic finance and should not be related to commercial projects (i.e. non-deal based);

In addition, the following consideration would be advantageous when making a nomination:

  1. Nominee who is currently involved or has led, conducted and/or participated in pioneering work and/or breakthrough innovations, where the application has had a significant impact towards the advancement of Islamic finance;

  2. Nominee who is currently involved or has advocated the development of Islamic finance (e.g. widening Shariah application to practice);

  3. Nominee who is currently involved or has been active in the advancement and promotion of Islamic finance through non-profit organisations e.g. industry associations, relevant institutions, Shariah boards or academia.

Evaluation will be based on seven (7) criteria, namely Advocacy, Award, Industry & Market Development, Innovation, Knowledge, Leadership and Policy Development. The description of the criteria is as follows:

1 Advocacy Nominee is active in the advocacy, advancement and promotion of Islamic finance through non-profit organisations, industry associations, relevant institutions or Shariah boards.
2 Award Nominee has received local and international recognition through awards, prizes, honours or anything of the likes.
3 Industry and Market Development Nominee has contributed or currently involved in the development of Islamic finance industry or related fields, especially in driving and applying the principles of Shariah and Islamic finance concepts leading to significant growth in Islamic finance market.
4 Innovation Nominee is currently involved or has led, conducted and/or participated in impactful Islamic finance research, pioneering work and/or breakthrough innovations, and which application has had a significant impact towards the advancement of Islamic finance.
5 Knowledge Nominee is well known in their present area of specialisation and have proven exemplary level of knowledge and expertise.
6 Leadership Nominee has demonstrated evidence of leadership qualities and possess track record of leading initiatives or any other advancements in their respective fields.
7 Policy Development Nominee is involved in policy development efforts or initiatives by relevant authorities and have contributed (through research, engagements, etc.) inputs for said cause.
